Gum recede on one tooth

It’s just one form of gum (periodontal) disease. There are several different causes for receding gums that can result in sensitivity or even tooth loss. Because the gums help support the teeth , receding gums should not be taken lightly.


Otherwise, you can begin to see the gums recede or pull away from the teeth. The cause is plaque that has become trapped in between teeth and the gums. As long as the underlying jaw bone is intact, gum tissue will stay strong and at healthy levels on the teeth.

In other words, the only reason gums recede is because the bone that supports the gum tissue has withdrawn. Incidentally, there’s a direct connection between receding gums and sensitive teeth. This happens because there’s infection or change in the microbiome. One of the most frequent causes of gum recession limited to an individual tooth is an inadequate zone of attached gingiva compounded by overzealous brushing and misalignment. The exact cause can be easily determined with a quick visit to your dentist. Trying to diagnose these situations on the internet can only cause more confusion. Also known as gum recession, shrinking or receding gums refers to the vertical loss of gum tissue around teeth.


The back of one of my front tooth has broken at the very bottom (past the gum line). I had a tongue ring a while back and my dentist explained that as a result of me rubbing it against the back of my teeth where my gums covered the roots - my gums have receeded. Now, one of my teeth has chipped and there’s a space between where my tooth now. Yes: Recession of the gums = bone loss. The root of your tooth should be covered by gums and bone.


Attached tissue is needed to avoid further recession and bone loss. Gum grafts increase the attached tissue on a tooth. Not only are they painful, they can also lead to pockets, or gaps, between your teeth and gum line, allowing the build up of harmful bacteria.
