Will a ice pack help a toothache

Applying hot or cold compresses to the area may give some relief. For example, use an ice pack or a hot-water bottle against the cheek. Place it on for around minutes at a time. Alternating between warm and cold compresses may help.


A person can try holding the ice pack or a bag of frozen peas, for example.

Wrap an ice cube inside a washcloth, run cold water over it for seconds, enough to dampen the area containing the ice cube (this allows for the coolness of the ice cube to permeate through the washcloth). Place on the tooth itself or within the area of the toothache. This should help to take the edge off the pain. Use an ice pack if you have.


One of the most common home remedies is good old-fashioned ice. Even massaging the sore area with a very cold fingertip can help. A pack of cold ice on the cheek can help make your toothache feel better too.


A word of caution though, if a toothache is caused by an exposed nerve, the extreme cold could make the pain worse instead of better.

Rinse a small amount of hydrogen peroxide with water and swish it like mouthwash. It can bring you relief and ward off. Cover it with a towel before you apply it. Ice helps prevent tissue damage and decreases swelling and pain.


Wrap up some ice in plastic and cover it with a cloth. Keep it against your aching tooth and the numbness will relieve you from the pain. A hot compress may help a patient with a tmj tooth pain but will worsen the pain for someone who has a tooth abscess.


This is probably the easiest remedy out there.
