Receding gums due to braces

Can I still get braces if my gums are receding? Do gums ever reverse the receding process on their own? How to help receding gums grow back naturally?


Is gum surgery the only option for fixing receding gums? Those constant compressive forces that are applied to the bone of your mouth during braces can lead to inflammation, which may cause the bone to go away. For many people, if they lose bone around teeth, the gums will follow the bone which creates (you guessed it) gum recession.

Gum disease too, should be brought under control before orthodontic intrusion as both gum overgrowth and gum recession can occur. When gums begin to recede, they slowly transform from pink and healthy to red and swollen. It is important for those who have receding gums to address this issue not only so there will no longer have be suffering from having sensitive teeth. I don't want to loose those teeth. I am nineteen and have braces. Anyone can suffer from sensitivity, but braces wearers can be especially susceptible to it.


To help prevent sensitivity, brush thoroughly after every meal and floss at least once a day.
