Chewing tobacco gum recession

What causes receding gums and how to stop it? How to reverse gum recession naturally? What damage does chewing tobacco cause? That’s right, chewing ‘dip’ can lead to or exasperate gum disease.

This leads to exposed roots, gum line cavities, and worse!

Gum loss from chewing tobacco is treatable but it is likely that you will need to stop chewing it. Smoking leads to direct damage to the vascularity of the gums , which acts as a aggressor to gum recession. Chewing tobacco is equally, if not more, dangerous. It leads to direct irritation of the gums , which over time, will lead to gum recession , and even more serious problems, such as oral cancer. If there is abnormal positioning, such that the teeth are not aligned in.

Studies have shown that chewing tobacco , or smokeless tobacco , can lead to gum recession. Smokeless tobacco can cause your gums to pull away from the teeth and increase the loss of bone and fibers that hold your teeth in place. The CDC reports that smokers are twice as likely to develop gum disease and gum recession than nonsmokers.

Preventing Gum Recession. Even gum recession on one tooth can be enough to cause significant pain and warrant dental intervention. So periodontal defects are also very common in people who hold their tobacco in the same place over and over.

All these factors lead to oral health problems including cancer, sores, tooth decay, inflammation, and bone and gum deterioration. The sores in your mouth will heal after you quit using smokeless tobacco , but the your gums and bones won’t grow back even after you quit. Gum Recession : Having a small “pinch” of chewing tobacco next to your gums causes constant irritation. The effect is permanent damage to your gums and the surrounding bone.

Damaged gum tissue pulls away from the teeth, causing sensitivity and additional exposure to tooth decay. Oral cancer occurs several times more frequently among snuff dippers compared with non-tobacco users. The risk of cancer of the cheek and gums may increase nearly 50-fold among long-term snuff users. Even the nicotine in e-cigarettes can contribute to dry mouth, which can again contribute to problems with gum health. The following chewing tobacco effects and statistics are public information from the CDC (Center for Disease Control).

Having a pinch of chewing tobacco next to your gums causes constant irritation to the surrounding area. Worst of all, the damage is permanent. If gum recession gets to the point where your tooth roots are exposed you are more susceptible to root cavities and increased tooth sensitivity as well.

In extreme cases, gum recession can even get to the point that in permanent tooth loss. Sometimes it happens even if a person takes good care of his or her teeth.

Gum recession can happen to people of all ages. Hugoson and Rolandsson provide information on tobacco use for each year of the study. Please read our FAQ if you are new to this subreddit! Post your comments, questions, stories, or advice about dipping and chewing tobacco.

I am curious if tobacco chew pouches cause gum recession similar to regular chew that is non pouched. It would seem that the pouch would protect the gums but this may not be the case.
