Gum recession root exposed

In a healthy mouth, the gums are pink and the gum line is consistent around all the teeth. If gum recession develops, the gums often look inflamed. The gum line also looks lower around some teeth than around others.


Gum tissue wears away, leaving more of a tooth exposed. Gum recession can happen slowly,. The result is that tooth roots are exposed , which can cause a number of concerns.

When gum recession occurs, pockets, or gaps, form between the teeth and gum line, making it easy for disease-causing bacteria to build up. As the gum inflammation recedes, the root may become exposed but your pocket depth will have been reduced- cleaning will now be easier and more effective. If you haven’t had any treatment and your gums are receding due to gum disease, the support for your teeth is being lost and you need to see a dentist to get this under.


If you have gum recession, your dentist can help you understand the causes and recommend a treatment. When teeth are healthy, gum tissue fits around each tooth like a cuff. In a tooth with gum recession, the gum tissue has pulled away from the tooth.


This can leave the tooth root exposed. So, without proper gum coverage, tooth roots become exposed. In general, then, it can be said that receding gums are the cause of root exposure.

However, there are many different conditions and situations that can lead to gum recession , so there’s no one underlying cause of root exposure. Your gums can recede for completely benign reasons. There are several different causes for receding gums that can result in sensitivity or even tooth loss. Because the gums help support the teeth, receding gums should not be taken lightly.


If you have an exposed root , see your dentist as soon as possible for corrective work. Since the root surface does not have a hard enamel covering like the crown (top) of the tooth, the root may become sensitive to hot and cold. Also, the exposed tooth root is more at risk for decay.


Cracked teeth : teeth that are cracked or chipped may fill up with bacteria which enters the pulp causing great pain. It is a common oral health problem in adults, but teenagers are also susceptible to this condition. Receding gums : as gums recede from the teeth, the roots and nerves become exposed. Also done by a periodontist, the surgical procedure involves grafting the gum tissue to cover exposed root surfaces and prevent further complications. If you’re only mildly affected by receding gums, then you don’t have to worry much.


The dentist will simply help identify the cause and give you instructions on how to treat it. Treating recession could be done for many reasons including: Prevention of root cavities: The root of a tooth is not covered with enamel and is therefore more susceptible to decay. If the roots are expose it’s usually a sign of one of these problems: Gingivitis or Periodontitis.


Gum disease causes the gum tissue to pull away from the tooth, and the breakdown of the bone and tissue can expose the roots. Tooth developed outside of the jaw bone. Please help, I have an exposed tooth root , from a receding gum line and it is extremely painful.
