Abscess in cheek

How to tell if you have an abcess in cheek? What is the treatment for an abscess? What causes abscess under the skin? An abscess is a pocket of pus that can develop on many parts of your body, including the inside of your mouth. Some people develop a tooth abscess that affects the area surrounding the tooth.


But sometimes, an abscess can form on the gums.

Obstruction in a sweat or oil (sebaceous) glan or a hair follicle or a pre-existing cyst can also trigger an abscess. A periapical tooth abscess usually occurs as a result of an untreated dental cavity, an injury or prior dental work. Usually, a swollen cheek is nothing to worry about and the swelling should go down when you get plenty of rest.


I have a liquid filled abscess right between my molars and cheek on the top left side of my mouth. It feels like a water balloon.

If you develop these symptoms—and especially if the swelling spreads—high-tail it to the emergency room, stat. Left untreate the illness can be deadly. Infection also causes pain and tenderness in the affected area.


If the wound is not healing, you need to see a physician to diagnose its cause and formulate a treatment plan to heal it. A non-healing wound can be due to a serious problem. These infections are common in people with poor dental health and result from lack of proper and timely dental care. Bacteria from a cavity can extend into the gums, the cheek , the throat,. A tooth abscess is a collection of pus which is formed by the body’s defense mechanism to trap and stop an infection from spreading into the bloodstream.


The pus is made up of dead tissues, white blood cells and bacteria. The infection spreads to the inner layers of the tooth when a tooth cavity or caries is left untreated. It means a pocket of pus has formed at the tip of a tooth root in your jaw bone.


If the infection isn’t treate it can appear as a swelling on the gum near the tooth.

More serious infections spread to the face. This causes your face to swell (cellulitis). Deep in the back of the abdomen on either side of the lumbar spine lie the psoas muscles. An abscess can develop in one of these muscles, usually when it spreads from the appendix, the large bowel, or the fallopian tubes. Tooth abscess : With tooth abscess , there is massive swelling of the cheek and this also hurts to open the mouth.


Boils commonly lead to a swollen cheek too. Keloid: This is the formation of excessive scar tissue in areas where the skin is injured. Excessive growth of keloid tissue can lead to swollen cheek.
