When can u use mouthwash after tooth extraction

What should you avoid after a tooth extraction? When can I drink OJ after a tooth extraction? Why rinse your mouth with salt water after a tooth extraction? As a general rule of thumb, you should refrain from using mouthwash for at least one day post-extraction.


If you use mouthwash too soon, you will run the risk of dislodging the blood clot that is necessary for proper healing after a tooth extraction procedure.

Once you’ve been careful to observe the one-day rule,. Most mouthwashes are antiseptic , which make them very useful for eliminating bacteria , particularly after a procedure that has left a wound like a tooth extraction. However, this does not automatically make them safe to use after you have had a tooth removed.

After than, I have been rinsing my mouth with warm salt water a few times a day and cleaning my other teeth as normal.

If the pain remains a few weeks after your dental extraction , or if you feel swelling , then you must consult your dentist. You can use mouthwash wash from the 3rd day after your extraction. Following a tooth extraction , it is recommended that you cleanse your mouth with a mild saline solution as opposed to a chemical mouthwash , with or without alcohol.


The salt water will not irritate the open lesion from the extraction like a chemical cocktail would. The day after an extraction use Corsodyl mouthwash at least times a day to prevent infection. Possible complications: Dry socket.


A dry socket occurs when the blood clot is dislodged from the surgery site exposing the bone and fine nerve endings. It will flush out any debris and parts of detached clots. Many contain alcohol that will damage healing tissues. Mouthwash should not be used for post surgical care.


Rinse after reach meal.

During the first three days rinse between meals. The chlorhexidine mouthwashes have a residual effect, so using it for weeks and then stopping for months is as good as using it every day. The only mouthwash we recommend you use every day is one with fluoride. Peridex ( chlorhexidine gluconate) is definitely a great mouthwash. Within the first hours, you are not allowed to drink or rinse your mouth with liquids.


After hours, you can begin to use warm salt water to make sure the blood is out. When the blood is out, then you can go ahead and use the mouthwash Listerine. After an extraction , it may involve portions of your mouth, cheeks, neck or even eyes, on the same side as your procedure. Portions of the swelling may show bruising.
