Tooth and ear pain on same side

What causes TMJ symptoms? How to tell the difference between a toothache and an Earache? Is your tooth pain a sinus or ear infection? If you have tenderness or pain in your teeth that are on the same side as that ear , then the two sources of discomfort are most probably interlinked.

There were no decayed teeth , no bone loss,. The temporomandibular joints on either side of the jaw can become dislocated or suffer from wear on the cartilage disks that cushion the joints,. This is especially true if your tooth ache is an upper jaw tooth on the same side as your ear ache.

These aberrant nerve signals are carried by the facial nerve in most cases but sometimes can be carried by the trigeminal nerve. Pain in the back of the throat can also be referred to the ear. Sometimes, a toothache and an earache can be related or having overlapping qualities.


In order to tell the difference between a toothache and an earache , it is important to know what the symptoms and causes of each are. Though the condition may cause teeth pain on either side of the face, the right side pain is separate and distinct from the left side pain. Multiple sclerosis, tumor, stroke, injury to a nerve, or contact between trigeminal nerve and a usual vein or artery may also cause the pain. At the same time, a single tooth will ache , but an hour later, the pain moves to a different tooth ! Is it a dental problem causing an ear ache or an ear ache causing a dental problem? A toothache causing headache and earache can happen if your affected tooth is an upper jaw tooth located on the same side as your ear.


In most cases, these unusual signals of the nerve are carried by your facial nerve, but sometimes they are carried by the trigeminal nerve. Hence, you can get both an earache and toothache at the same time. Jaw pain can occur due to multiple reasons including the jaw itself, the sinuses and teeth. Some people may experience teeth pain on the left side of the upper jaw, lower jaw or both. Such people may also experience pain in the back of the left jaw.


Some of the symptoms of teeth pain on the left side of the mouth can range from simple discomfort to high-intensity pain. They often have “trigger points” or areas that are tender and can even refer pain to the affected teeth. While most people feel their blocked sinus pain in their upper teeth, the ache can spread to the lower teeth as well.


This is called ‘referred pain,’ and it is very common in the mouth.

Your dentist or doctor can help to determine what is going on with your teeth and sinuses. Dental issues are the commonest cause of jaw pain and headache on one side. It is commonly experienced due to an infected tooth , abscess, wisdom tooth and after a tooth extraction.


Dental infection and tooth extraction can result in jaw pain and swelling around the jaw, which may extend up to the ears. Do you have sensory pain in the skin at all around your lip or nose or cheek.
